“A designer comes up with a trend in Tokyo or Stockholm, as the cycle begins, and you wonder, what am I looking at?,” Ms. Jensen says. “This is a grassroots way of looking at the trends.”
Rona, she says, is big on made-in-Canada wares to satisfy what she says is growing demand from Canadian customers for local product. Rona buyers hunt the globe for inspiration and come back to Canada to see which products can be sourced or made locally.
“I was in New York this summer and saw these amazing black matte faucets for the bathroom,” Ms. Jensen says. “I came back and I saw a similar look in the Rona lookbook and I thought, they’re onto something. And they’ve made it affordable.”
